What things to consider if planning to retire in the Philippines as a retired US military collecting a pension and disability?

    If you go to live in ANY foreign country, you have to be aware that there may not be facilities such as VA or even commissary, etc. You also have to understand that even if there ARE facilities, it can change overnight. If that country gets a new leader, or if we decide to close that base or whatever, you may be basically cut off from any real help or benefits. I know, for instance, that a lot of retirees in PI suffered when they closed the Air Force base after the volcano erupted. I'm not sure what is left of Subic bay or Cubi Point, but I know they are nothing like they were back in the '70's. And, being a disabled vet, I'm not at all sure if there are ANY retiree facilities there now.

    Contact the Navy Retired Office in Subic Bay. They have a web sight with a lot of essential and need to know info.
