Is moving to the Philippines and marrying a Filipina when I retire a risky proposition?

If moving to the Philippines includes investing your existing, remaining, or yet unrealized but expected assets, including money I would suggest you set up a company so that you can legally own at least part of your investments otherwise you will be faced with only putting everything in your Filipina wife’s name only. I have been visiting and even lived at times full time in the Philippines and far too many times over the last 20 years I have come across or heard of foreigners getting ripped off by their Filipina Girlfriends or wives who have chosen to take advantage of the legal ownership right foreigners have given them. Not all people are this conniving but enough so that it warrants taking preventative steps to protect yourself. Do not start spending your money there right away and try not to let anyone know exactly how much you have, where you have it, or have coming in. In the Philippines people have been known to as much as lose their lives over a measly $100.00 USD. You would do well to take this warning seriously. Once you have allowed your self to become a victim there is little help for you to rely on anywhere within the entire country. Many people speak of the Philippines as being paradise but if you are not careful, aware, and alert it can quickly turn into a hell of you. Be quick to set up a bank account and keep your money on your bank cards so that you do not often carry around much cash with you. also make sure to always have around or near you plenty of distilled water as the Philippines is one of the most unsanitary countries you will ever visit or live in.

Yes. Very. But if you are careful, fall in love with the right girl and are not reckless with your money, you can be happy here. But it's not all rainbows and unicorns. Your wife family WILL live in your pocket, there is little to do here hobby-wise and many Expats become alcoholics. It is easy to find and fall in love with a pinay, it is much harder to live with one.
