I knew a Korean who was arrested for possession of cocaine. He was a friendly acquaintance of mine. He was an alright guy, but he had developed a serious cocaine habit in Los Angeles during his time there which he could not shake. He was married to a Filipina & had two children. But he was arrested. I took the Korean lawyer down to the jail because he could not find it. The Korean was in a dirty jail cell crowded with half-nude Filipinos, many of whom were wired on Filipino meth. He paid $4000 bail & was released. I don’t know what happened to him. While we were there, a relative of his wife came into the jail & shouted at him. So I suppose he was fairly screwed. I knew a few Americans who ran out of money in the Philippines & turned themselves into Immigration. Immigration jails are not as bad. Some older American men, scammed out of all their money & broke & desperate on the streets like being in Immigration jail.

All I can say is what I saw on “Worlds’ Toughest Prisons” which Discovery ran and then I saw it on Netflix. They are hell holes and everyone has to survive on their own by working in the prison or having money sent for the bare necessities. It’s assholes to elbows in some parts of the prison until you pay or work your way up in status and better living conditions. The best prisons he visited were in Norway and Greenland. Those were high end resorts in comparison.
