Don't move there. Seriously. Why? Climate change— The Philippines is going get dealt a really shitty hand by global warming. Besides sea levels rising and an increase in typhoons, the average temperatures are going to increase, making it difficult to live there.Climate change # 2 — Diseases are going to become a bigger issue due to changes in the climate. You’'ll need to carefully monitor your health, as increased temperatures will mean increases in insect-related and foodborne illneses. There's no decent medical infrastructure— The best medical treatment in the country is in the major cities. If you live in remote area, or on one of the smaller island,s and you grow ill, things might be unpleasant to say the least. The transportation safety in the country is abysmal — If you need to take a bus or a ferry, you may be rolling the dice. There's a good chance of being injured or killed while using some form transit as bribes and neglect of maintenance are not uncommon in the country.Overpopulation— The population of the country has not yet plateaued. The Philippines is vastly overcrowded and things don't look promising for the future. The nation already has 50-70 million more people than it can manage and the population may well double before 2050. Without jobs, money and living in a tropical climate that is just getting hotter, civil unrest is on the horizon.Frankly, if you cannot afford to live there for a few months to check things out before moving, I wouldn't bother going. Either you'll relocate there and discover that you don't care for it. Or you’'ll find that you have enough to live thrre, but not enough to leave if things get bad

Why would you move anywhere without checking it out first? Unless you’re running away from the police or an ex spouse. I’ve been to Mindanao 3 times and I’m going back again in December. I was married there and I’ll probably retire there. My first visit I landed about the time it got dark so I didn’t see much that night. I stay in a rural barangay and let me tell you something. It’s POOR . I had never seen such poverty in America even in the city. The people are warm and friendly once you get to know them and I love the nation now but that first trip was eye opening. If you’re from a western nation do yourself a favor and take that test visit.
