I am a straight-shooting dude. Can I speak my mind in public around other Filipinos?

Well, it depends on what the subject-matter is. If it is politics or something touchy about their culture, I would stay away. But the safest route in general is this: shut the hell up and mind your own business. No-one cares about your point of view, your complaints, your whining, and how it's so much better in your home country etc… Filipinos know how to run their own country, their communities, and their lives. I stopped hanging out with a loud-mouth Texan dude in Makati for this very reason – we would go out to bars and he would start arguing with people and acting like a big turd and it almost got us into serious trouble on several occasions. They don't need any know-it-all foreigner preaching to them. You are not a citizen, you do not work or contribute to the tax-base, so you have no special rights in the PH. So act accordingly and STFU.
