Its only in the United States that you see people killing other group of people ( eg. asians) just because they are asians. One reason, because they see asians as a lower form of their made up human race. Yet, they color the US blue and asian countries are not!!! The colored red are said to be more racially intolerant than the countries colored blue. And the Philippines is colored RED. Then, I tried to search the reason why. I found out, the researchers of this map concluded that those people who answered that they will chose the people of the same ‘race” (in this case, their fellow Filipinos) as neighbor rather than other “race” are racially intolerant. And the people behind this map are supposed to be intelligent beings. The worst, it is even published by supposedly “intelligent” magazines. If they had asked me about it, I would answer the same as the one this research branded as “racially intolerant” . Why would i choose (only for example) a neighbor that is from the farthest part of Siberia when there is an available Filipino home already settled in town. Then, if there are two Filipino house in there and i don’t know them both, i will choose the one than is from my region, if there is one. Why? It is neither because of racial intolerance nor racism, it simply the same as that person who is more comfortable to share his bed to a friend rather than to a stranger. . You don’t know them and their culture, does not mean you look down on them nor you don’t want to know them and even becomes their friend if they want you to be theirs. A lot of Filipinos will say, Racism is rampant in our society, but we never ever study the meaning and real meaning of racism in school that a lot of us, even one of my boss confused it with discrimination and other things like ignorance, prejudice, classicism, regionalism etc . We only learn racism on social media or the news. This blog defines racism as an ideology (which the Philippines have never ever taken part in) Dear White People, Your "Dictionary Definition" of Racism is Wrong But if we take this meaning from Wikipedia: “Racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another, which often results in discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race.” This will also be hard to apply in the Philippine society as a whole since “Filipinos” itself is not a race but only a nationality. So, to directly answer this question: the answer is that – it is not that serious. This can even be validated by our very own history. When the Spaniards first came to the Philippines , one of the things that they observed is that, the upper class have slaves. But unlike in the old United states, this slaves are not of different “race”. By the way, here in quora itself, any one can see this kinds of post by Americans; Was there any equivalent of this post for the “Filipino race…or..brown race” …i mean, because they say, they are the white race. So i think there should also be a brown race right? lol,. I supposed, i am the same race with many africans, indians and many latin americans and even some europeans… i didnt even knew that, but we are the more racist still And the US is the utopia.

Not as serious as one might think. Why? Here’s why. Filipinos are one of the most racist fellows on earth. It sounds bad but trust me, it isn’t. Filipinos are generally friendly. If they ever are racists, its usually on a lighter tone. Calling Indians “bumbay”, chinese “intsik” or “chekwa”, are usually in a funny and non-aggressive way. Filipinos love to laugh and always make fun of alot of things, including races. But never have I seen filipino racism go the lenghts of aggression or violence. Filipinos never think that they are more superior, (yes I’m talking about white supermacists), or they are better than other races. Once a filipino get to know someone, regardless of race, they can always become friends. Filipinos dont generally select friends based on races. So if your a foreigner visiting the philippines, expect people call you some names, usually behind your back, depending on your race. But find that its very easy to make friends no matter the race and that you generally wont be treated badly. You would most likely even get special treatment since Filipinos are also very hospitable.
