Positive. Meanwhile there is another side which also should be considered if you are serious to retire in Philippines.I live here for over 4 years and I am happy. It was really a good move and right decision for me to retire here. Meanwhile a lot of things were new for me and sometimes even weird. Great weather, English language, good fresh food, quite cheap living, nice young girls around. All that is true and I enjoy that. Meanwhile not everything is that great and in pink colors. Most of people retired here live on a budget of $800–1000, even I know people with $200–300–400 budget. Quite low, they have to save any peso. Even most Filipino working people don’t even make $200 a month and would be happy to live on $200 a month with their families. Of course, depends on the place you leave at. Manila is quite expensive against other cities, but I doubt you would like to retire in a large capital city. In small places, on small islands everything is much cheaper. And if you have $2000 budget you could live here like a king.Meanwhile other matters are coming out there, first of all healthcare. Just don’t believe that it is cheap here. Private hospitals might be quite expensive, even much cheaper than in US. The difference is that in US we mostly have medicare, health insurance, etc. Here you need to pay in full and bills in more or less good hospitals are quite high. To estimate that just check statistics and see how long average Filipinos live. Just because they cannot afford any medical help. I could see people who have never visited a dentist, women who have never been seen by a gynecologist, etc. And if you plan to reside in province just don’t expect to get quick and qualified medical help. I know a lot of fatal cases just because people couldn’t get to a hospital in time.The other thing is education. The attorney is right, education here is cheap. And I would say it is the only privilege. My friend’s kid goes to a public school with 55 kids in a class. And actually knows not too much. If you try to ask some simple questions you might be disappointed. According to my experience 6–7 of 10 high school and collage graduates don’t know how much 7×8 is and need a calculated to find and answer. Not a surprise for me that according to PISA-2018 research Philippines was graded #78 from 79 countries. So if you have kids and want good education for them just consider private schools and tutors. There is also a number of well known universities in Manila, Cebu, Dumaguete and other cities.This is true, a lot of foreigners come here and find their wives, girlfriends. living partners. Filipinas are considered in the world as the best wives, housekeepers, nurses, etc. And this is definitely true. I personally am absolutely happy with my girl, even we have disagreements sometimes. Meanwhile people are different. And girls as well. So no recipes in this private matter.Philippines is a great country and I am happy to live here. For those who is really seriously thinking about retirement here my advise: come for a vacation first to see everything personally, talk to people, etc. If you have questions – just ask. Me and our expat community would be happy to help nice people and make their accommodation here as smooth as possible.

Do you have family here? If not, you should reconsider. At your age, do you really want to undergo the hassle of adjusting to a new culture and environment? Believe me, the Philippines is a lot to adjust to if you are from the U.S. or Europe.
