Living here, you will enjoy some of the nicest, good-hearded people on Earth. Filipinos are -by far- the best thing about the Philippines: joyful, kind, curious (and they speak English!), they will make every interaction pleasant. In two years, I have almost never seen someone truly angry or aggressive. For the rest, there is “The Philippines” and Manila. Manila is super polluted, with very poor infrastructures or green spaces. You have to get out as often as possible or you can go crazy 🙂 Another challenge is eating healthy, there aren't many options. On the other hand, I disagree with the previous comment: you can have access to a very high standards of living for little. I live in a residences with swimming pools, gaming room, gym, movie theatre (for free),etc. in Makati, I basically don't restrain myself on anything (eating out and going out most of the time) and my monthly budget is about 1000$. Some other perks of Manila include: Many cool espace rooms (7$/pax)Good quality massage (6$/hour)Gastronomic restaurant (like black sheep or black bird) for 20$/paxThen there is “the Philippines”, its thousands of paradise islands and beaches. Overall, you won't have access to the West level of comfort but man, you’re in for a treat.

It depends entirely on what you looking for. If you are a relatively young, single guy then there is a lot of nightlight to be enjoyed particularly if you like dating happy, funny, sexy Filipina girls that think you are handsome even if you aren’t. If you are a Digital Nomad then you can live cheaply and even find some inexpensive co-workers but your locations are limited to where you can get good internet access – i.e., mostly the larger cities. If you are an older guy looking for a loyal and affectionate life partner then Filipinas make great wives if you take the time to get to know the right one and her family. In any case you will be frustrated by the lack of food choices and good service, too hot or too wet weather, inability to get a local job, power outages, annoying family members, bugs, lack of punctuality and “Filipino logic” in general. Nevertheless I love it in the Philippines where I am living an interesting life surrounded by mostly friendly people of all ages who like to smile and say Hi to me even though I am old on a bit odd.
