I don’t think either of the previous answers are completely fair. Absolutely, if you want to live the same lifestyle and have everything you had in say the US, expect to pay a premium for it. I have been here close to 4 years, while there are things I miss, it is because I choose not to seek out and/or pay the premium for them A good steak, beef is horrible here and imported is very pricey.Convenience foods ( the things you stick in your freezer then put in the oven or microwave when too lazy to cook a meal ), almost non-existent Available, even delivered same day, but at significant cost Ok, Live lobster and Chicago style stuffed pizza, 2 things I have not found a way to get here 🙂 But seriously, yes, the roads around Metro Manila are insane. Local grocery selection is often limited. Hot water from every tap is almost non-existent. Even those things there are ways around if they are important. Many of the roads outside metro area are smooth, open, and wind through breathtaking views. You can install water heaters on any tap you desire hot water, etc. I have found the electricity to be stable, but very costly, and the tap water to be drinkable. That is when the water is working at all, it is often off for hours, days, weeks even! Internet, well, thats kind of a matter of feast or famine. If you live in the right area, 100–200mb is available, 10–50 most places. Just pray it never goes out after they install it. And that brings me to one thing that I really do miss. Quality customer service. Oh they will always be polite, telling you how sorry they are that it took 6 weeks to fix your internet when it goes out. Or, when your tomorrow morning delivery showed up on five datys later at 8pm. Theres a tagalog expression i love that covers these things “Bahala na!” ( Whatever will be, will be. ) Life here is what you make of it, anything is available, for a price. I miss many things, but mostly just because i am not willing to pay the price

Too many things to mention, and enough for me to decide to return home (which I did).. Q: Foreigners living in the Philippines, what do you miss about your home country? Decent food at reasonable prices. Being brought up with western food, I prefer it. Imported food in the Philippines is (like other countries) more expensive than in the home country. Decent roads. Electricity and Internet. Clean water on tap. etc
