Many expats and foreigners bypass the middle class lifestyle because they don't know about it. It's very appealing for Westerners b/c it is the equivalent of living a in a middle class experience back in your country. Crime is low, people are friendly, and rents are reasonable ranging around 7K pesos per month (which is about $140). Also, everybody in these neighbourhoods has about the same standard of living, so you're not going to stand out.
