It's where you as a visitor / expatriate will often be charged extra for services and items. In other words, you'll pay more than native Filipinos for the same stuff, and if you are not wise or expereienced enough, you won't even notice. That's why most smart dudes who've lived here a long time let their Filipino wives or girl-friends do most of the shopping with locals.

It can be frustrating in a foreign country to be blatantly overcharged for everything. I know a lot of expats struggle with the feeling of being overcharged for items or services. This does happen. Do your research beforehand on what things should cost. If you think the price is too high, just stand there for a moment, holding or looking at the item and often they will lower the price. You can try asking what their "last price" is.

Sometimes people will try to charge me more, because they see me as a "Kano". In those cases my wife (a Filipino) does the buying. But people are getting to know me and don't try it as often
