There are two types of Philippine work visa: 9(g) or Pre-arranged Employment visa[1] – It is known to be the most common type of visa. It can be obtained through an employer sponsorship since it is a company-specific visa. This type of visa has a maximum validity of 3 years then, you’d have to renew you visa.9(d) or Treaty Trader’s Visa[2] – This type of visa is granted to foreign nationals, where in their country of origin has a bilateral agreement with the Philippines. American, Japanese and German nationals are qualified to apply for this type of visa given that they are a major shareholder of the company who is going to petition the applicant provided that the company will foster trade between Philippines and country of origin.Aside from the work visas, foreign nationals may work here on Philippine work permits: Special Work Permit (SWP) [3]- This type of work permit is given to foreign nationals with short or temporary projects in the Philippines. These are usually availed by musical artists, performers, professional athletes as well as by other foreign nationals that will render services temporarily. Maximum validity is 3 month and can only be extended for another 3 months.Provisional Work Permit (PWP) [4] – This type of work permit is issued to foreign nationals who are on temporary visitor visas and wishes to commence work as well as for those foreign nationals whose 9d or 9g are still on process. Validity of this work permit is usually 3 months from the date it is issued or until work visa is issued.Alien Employment Permit (AEP)[5] – It is the opposite of the SWP because it is valid for 1-5 years depending on the duration of the contract with employer. It should be filed personally or through petitioning employer at the DOLE Regional office having jurisdiction over the principal place of the company.Duration of the process would depend on how fast you can comply with the requirements of the Bureau of Immigration and Department of Labor and Employment which ever government agency you need to coordinate with.
