I can only speak for myself (since I plan on moving there once I can) and relate what I have heard from others who have moved there, but this is a small sample of those who have done so. But here are the reasons: Married someone from there.Love the people and their culture.MUCH lower cost of living.Simpler life. Fewer restrictions. One of the most beautiful places on Earth.Better cultural "fit". – This one I probably need to explain. I spent time in the Visayas and both Cebu City and Iloilo City remind me so much of what my hometown near Tampa, Florida was like 30+ years ago, the good and the bad. The good is what I miss and can no longer find anywhere I have looked in the US. The bad are problems I know how to deal with rather than the host of new ones that are popping up everywhere in the US. People out in the provinces seem to be living even further back in time, which for me is a positive. Going to the Philippines is an opportunity to get away from all the changes that have made America so intolerable in the last several decades.Less stress. Unless you are living in Metro Manila, the pace of life is much slower and life in general is a lot less stressful. I'm sure there are more, but that is what I can think of off the top of my head. For me the reverse question is more interesting. When I think of why people leave the Philippines for the US, Canada, Australia, etc. the only reason I can come up with (aside from marrying someone from those places) is $$$. As far as I am concerned if you can make enough monety to keep a roof over your head and food on the table, then the Philippines has a whole lot more to offer.

For one, the standard cost of living is much, much lower. Some foreigners that I know & heard can live off $2-$5 a day. And maybe for the most common reason is because of its people. Because of the warmth of its people (generally speaking). I also notice to see a a lot of those who married a Filipino/Filipina,
