Different operators have different criteria for keeping a cell phone number live. These can include: Making a call or sending a text before the time limit expires. This limit may typically be 3 to 6 months, but different networks vary.Using Internet data before the time limit expires.Receiving a call or text before the time limit expires. This may require the connection to the phone to be fully completed, so calling or texting a phone that is switched off may not be sufficient.Topping up the credit.Solutions: Take the phone with you and make sure international roaming is enabled, then you can perform one of the tasks above when required.Possibly enable call forwarding so you can call the phone’s number and answer it on a phone in the Philippines.Have a friend make the occasional call or top up on the phone while you are away. You should contact Airtel and ask for their advice. If you are genuinely not using the number for 12 months, will it really hurt if you lose it and have to get a new one on your return?
