Sapience. What it means to be a human human. Sapience's bedrock is familiarity. The notion familiarity comes from family. The Filipino assessment of what is best gives the greatest weighting to family and extended family. The #noble_creature_dog is a thousand times as sapient as homo sapiens. The Philippines is one of the most sapient societies on Planet Earth. All that counts is not countable and all that is countable does not count. Sapient people like the #noble_creature_dog refuse to go back to the troublesome days before the first village arose in human history. In our journey from caveman days to now. Sapient people realise in their bones that all that glitters is not gold. Rootless Malaysians and Singaporeans are victims of insapience. Where familiarity breeds contempt way too much. One huge disaster (bala) inevitably happens more often than we like and we would be pieces of shit fighting each other for food. Filipinos are #seven_generations_instincters — they ask "Is it good for seven generations?" subconciously. Given this, we should be surprised if the #noble_creature_dog doesn't think his family is the best family for him. So too Filipinos. #insapience #spiritofponnamal

Although I think this question is another ‘generalization’, most of the Filipinos who have at least traveled in other SEA countries and have some knowledge and experience to compare, would probably NOT say this. A typical Filipino who can afford to travel at least around Southeast Asia would probably choose among Thailand, Singapore or Vietnam first. It could be an ‘and’ or it could be an ‘or’, meaning some will probably be able to travel across all of those countries or just one or two of them. Malaysia seems to still be a fourth or fifth option as it’s not too popular a destination among Filipino budget travelers for some reason, although it should probably be the number two country in the region next to Singapore in terms of development. I haven’t been to Vietnam, but best case it’s probably similar to the Philippines as far as I have heard and seen in terms of infrastructure and way of life which are the most basic things you would notice first. Having been to Thailand and currently working here in Singapore though, I’m pretty sure anyone who has traveled to both countries would already have an altered opinion about the Philippines being the ‘best’ country in the region. Once you set foot at Changi Airport, you already know that you really are in a different and much better country and that nothing in the Philippines is like it so far. This will be the first impression and that is why Singapore heavily invests in this gateway. I have only been to Bangkok once and I could say Suvarnabhumi airport is a tad better than NAIA terminal 3. Although the traffic jam to and fro the airport is a bit heavy, you can still notice the infrastructure difference between the two cities. No Filipino in their right minds would say that Bangkok is ‘worse’ than Manila. I love my country, don’t get me wrong, but to say that it is the best at least in the region without even seeing and experiencing travel in neighboring countries first is just plain being biased.
