No. I can confidently say no for a few reasons Tourism is a bigger and bigger part of the Philippine economy bringing in badly needed dollars. Brazil started making Americans get a visa and it hurt their tourism industry quite a bit. They even waived the requirement during the olympicsFilipinos in general like Americans. They have the highest affinity for Americans of any other country in the world. Duterte’s proposal wouldn’t gain much support with the Philippine peopleThe Philippines needs America. Our companies employ thousands if not millions of Filipinos jump starting its economy. I’m not saying they couldn’t survive without us but they’d be worse off. Despite Duterte’s bluster about going to China. China just doesn’t have the resources to offer the Phils as good of a deal as America can. American companies pay 10x the average wage. You have Filipino doctors leaving their practices to go work at American call center. Chinese companies on the other hand are known for exploiting for Philippine laborers. Often paying below the mandated wage and working them long hours. They’re terrible. Ask any Filipino if they’d rather work for an American call center or some chinese owned company almost all will choose the call center. They’ve brought hope to many people that didn’t have any before. The only reason Palawan isn’t now a province of China is because of the United States. Duterte has potty mouth but he’s not dumb. In a bilateral talk with China the Philippines would have no leverage whatsoever. China would at best make a nominal concession to make it seem like they made a deal. The South China Sea and Palawan would be completely within the hands of China.Obama is gone. He was way out of line criticizing Duterte for actually trying to bring the rule of law back to the country. It’s well known Duterte is a sensitive man and Obama should’ve known better.

If they do, to keep it even, they should do the same to the other countries too; UK, Australia, Canada, and 153 more countries, including Europe, who get the same Visa free initial entry for 30 days. If they only stop the US, then it would look very odd.
