I am a lawyer in the Philippines. And I can tell you that you can get free legal advice from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and from the Office of Legal Aid of the University of the Philippines College of Law. Most law schools in the Philippines have offices of legal aid because these are where their law students engage in their practicum. All law students in the Philippines are required to undergo two semesters of supervised legal training in the last year of their study. Student lawyers can even appear in court as long as they are supervised by a member of the Philippine Bar (Rule 138-A). There are non-governmental organizations (NGOs) like the Migrante who give free legal advice and legal aid to migrant workers facing criminal charges in foreign countries. There are public interest law firms like the MABINI, the FLAG, Saligan and others who give free legal advice and legal aid. If you are accused of a crime and you cannot afford a lawyer, you can seek legal representation from the Public Attorney’s Office. Hope this helps.
