Do you think killing drug addicts is the best thing to do to eradicate crime in the Philippines?

Ha! Crime isn’t done by drug addicts alone and not all drug addicts commit crime (except of course for the crime that they buy and use illegal drugs). There are government officials (not all) commit crime by corruption, not being truthful in their statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN), etc. Some rich people by evading taxes. Drivers who do not abide traffic rules. Common citizens who jaywalks. Those are some crimes, but let us focus on drug addicts. Common crimes that involve drug addicts are murder, rape, hostage taking, kidnapping. Let’s say these crimes are being done by drug addicts. There are drug addicts because drugs are available to them. Drugs are available to them because there are drug pushers. There are drug pushers because there are drug dealers. There are drug dealers because there are drug lords. There are drug lords because there are drug manufacturers. There are drug manufacturers because there are addictive plants. These addictive plants are dangerous for human intake that’s why these are illegal. Then some people think it was a good idea to earn money using these plants, they are maybe the drug manufacturers or the drug lords, or both. Drug manufacturers and drug lords can also be same people. So we go on eradicating drug addicts and maybe also drug pushers. We kill them all. But we can not find the drug lords or the drug lords are among us, or the drug lords shut the authorities using money. Money is a powerful thing if you think it is. We eradicate the fruit, the leaves, and the branches, but the trunk and root is still alive, it will continue to grow smarter and more powerful, with more ideas. Unless, of course, we successfully killed the root. But if we fail to see what the root is or we turn blind on what or who it is, then no, we can not eradicate crimes by just killing the users. Other crimes can be solve by discipline, morals and values, and love for each other, which is, unfortunately, most are lacking.

Absolutely not. It's been shown time and again that legalizing drugs is the way to battle the problem. Legalizing drugs has many positive effects. Lowering death overdose and disease rates lowering poverty rates and government assistance rates lowering crime rates across the board, lowering incarceration rates and non payed er visits are aome of the reason that legalizing drugs saves millions in tax payer dollars annually. Not only do more people have acsess to treatment (due to extra resources) but the rate of new addiction is lowered when drugs are legalized. Addicts can receive a safe, medical grade dose, and that allows them to live a normal life working and such, instead of having to search for and commit crimes to get said drugs. Addiction is a disease, these people are sick, and it is the laws in place making drugs illegal that are causing so much of the harm and issues surrounding the addiction epidemics around the world.
