There are skilled short term jobs available, mostly in special economic zones (Clark, Subic). Otherwise not much for Americans (legally) without being married to a citizen. If married and have the correct visa, the money you can earn at a regular job is not enough to justify getting out of bed. The Philippines is a country you retire in or live here and earn elsewhere.

All types of employment are available. It is important to understand you will need a work authorization as well as some type of extended stay visa. Most jobs here will pay less than their US equivalents and Filipinos have a stronger work ethic so more may be expected than you are used to. That said, skilled labor is in higher demand and any education you have towards business or trade will likely carry you much farther. Also the cost of living is much lower here and you can live quite comfortably on $1,500-$2,000 a month. Skilled construction trades and managerial skills are in high demand. Teaching positions are also available in all kinds of fields. Whatever experience you have will serve you well. Being American will give you an in IF you have all the necessary authorizations. Starting your own business here is fairly easy and the government is friendly towards anyone who can help promote economic progress for the country.
