Siargao is probably the nicest island in the Philippines right now. As for crime-ridden, I’m not aware of any such island in the country. The only danger I’m aware of are places where there are presence of government rebels, southernmost part of the country, that would be southernmost part of Mindanao.

Anything ‘dangerous’ happens almost anywhere and not just in the Philippines. It’s just the same when asking which city is better. A dangerous or better city is subjective and depends on someone who perceives and understands it. Now, I am from Mindanao myself, a native from Mindanao, yes, been living here all my life but of course I live in the northern part where it’s much safer and I’m not saying it’s really safe, of course, there are also thieves or pickpocketers here especially during big events like festivals. A lot of us know that some parts in Mindanao especially the southwestern and southern parts of Mindanao(I would like to exclude Davao, it’s known to be safe at least that’s what people living in Davao said) are more dangerous. But when you’re watching or listening to Filipino news, you’ll notice that different kinds of crime happens in Metro Manila most of the time. Rape, gang wars, gun shootouts and a lot more. If I was in Manila, I would avoid places like Tondo and Caloocan most especially and other parts of Metro Manila that I wasn’t able to point out since most places in Metro Manila are just as dangerous as Tondo and Caloocan. Visayas. Well, never been there but Cebu is the biggest city in the Visayan islands. What I heard is, there are great amount of pickpocketers and taxi drivers cheating on their meters in Cebu City(also happens in Metro Manila). Meanwhile, Eastern Visayas is mostly prone to be the first to experience the big typhoons that passes Visayas. In Western Visayas, especially in Guimaras, is dangerous for your health because eating the sweetest Filipino mangoes can make you fat. You think of it and you decide. Cheers!
