If I retire and move to the Philippines with an expected pension of around $6,000 USD per month, could I live pretty well there, say in Baguio or thereabouts?

Yes, that should be sufficient. That’s P300K per month…more than enough for a comfortable life in a country where the average person’s monthly salary is only about a tenth of that. Depending on the location, you can buy a good condo from P2M onwards…or rent a house for P30–50K a month. Utilities, phone, water etc. should be around P50K. Buy a private medical insurance so you wont have to worry about unforeseen medical bills that can take a chunk out of your budget. There is a growing expat/foreign retiree neighbourhood in the south – Davao and General Santos City, I believe. That may be a safer bet. Baguio weather is no longer cool…and it has also become quite congested like Manila. If its the North or Ilocos area you prefer rather than the south, you should look at Pampanga or Ilocos Sur.

Definitely in Baguio (or anywhere on the planet). Baguio is slightly more expensive than the surrounding lowlands but you won’t need air conditioning or a fan so your electric bill will be lower. Been living here (Baguio) for over 10 years now. If you want comfortable year-round temperatures, it’s hard to find another place on the planet comparable.
