Although I was born and raised in Bacolod City, I’d been living away for most of my life (some 40 years), but one striking experience when you are a first-time visitor to the city is the heart-warming hospitality of the people. They would greet you with such a friendly smile and sweet accent, perfect reasons why the place is dubbed as the “City of Smile” and the “Sugar Capital of the Philippines”. The place is abound with good places to eat and beautiful places to visit for sightseeing. It is also considered one of the Top 5 highly-urbanized cities in the country with thriving commerce and business atmosphere ideal and conducive to investors. It has also become among the favorite locations in the country for foreign-based “call centers” to conduct their 24/7 customer service operations internationally. Visit Bacolod City and it will never disappoint.

Bacolod (City of smiles) has grown alot in the last decade, but what makes Bacolod great in my opinion is the people, and the food! Bacolod is famous for its chicken Inasal (BBQ Chicken), Sea food is also delicious if you go to the pala pala restaurants, go to bangga Patio for the best tasting Bachoy with bone marrow, and if it is giant pizza’s you want, try Mama Maria’s Pizzarea near Goldenfield. Also you should try the traditional sweets made in the province, my favorite is Piyaya but there are so many goodies to choose from (try dropping by Bong Bong’s or El Ideal in Silay for the complete selection of traditional Negrense sweets). Lechon and Cansi are also delicious and available in Bacolod. Visit in Febuary for the Bacolaodiat Festival (Chinese New Year) and if you visit in October the Maskara street dancing festival is a spectacle to be part of!
