Bacolod City is relatively safe wherever you go as long as it’s not dark. So avoid dark areas. When walking around downtown, be sure to monitor your belongings at all times (dark or not). There are thieves there, not that many but they will not hesitate when you give them the opportunity. In general, Banago and Magsungay are what people consider as bad neighborhoods. These have become dens of thieves and addicts. It’s still relatively safe though. I live at Magsungay and I have never heard of anyone getting robbed here. There are times that people try to kill each other but those were over isolated issues.

Bacolod is one of the self sustaining and independent cities in Negros Province, considerably the center of trade and advancements. The city's crime rate is relatively low and has been improving positively based on statistics [1]. So generally, the city is a good place. However, let me provide some insights on how prejudices and, well, stereotypes work in the Baranggays or smaller clustered units of community work. I've been living in the city for twelve years now and collectively stated the following details thru personal recollections and stats if I can include some. First, Taculing is the largest Barangay in the city. Subdivisions such as City Heights Subdivision and Puentebella are the most notable and are good neighborhoods. Mansilingan, another baranggay just beside Taculing and is second largest is also packed with subdivisions and housing units you might wanna check for. Next would be Alijis and Bata on the list. Banago, Magsungay, and some small ‘puroks’ within other baranggays may be regarded as center of drug trades. This is due to high numbers of users and pushers of the cartel in the area.[2] Another place to watch would be the Downtown Area or Central Market. It is the center of commerce and small establishments and is jam packed daily up until 9 in the evning. Almost all jeepney routes pass the area causing the large amount of people in addition to the malls, wet market, and small establishments that may provide everything you need. Due to this, pick-pocketters should be watched for tho the helpful public will help you generally through this once seen. On the other parts, usual Filipino traditions and culture are observed and, of course, precaution is needed as most streets are emptied on late nights except Lacson St. which is the center for night life. Policemen are all-so-helpful and are on almost every corner on night time tho, so it's relatively safe.
