Some People might need a Visa. Q: Do I need a visa for the Philippines? If you plan on working or living in the Philippines as a resident you need a Visa. Tourists from many countries are allowed to arrive in the Philippines without a visa, and are issued one on arrival for either 7 days, 14 days, 30 days or 59 days (depending on nationality). However, some nationalities need a visa before arrival even for just holiday reasons. That visa need renewing if you plan on staying longer, and non renewal mean financial penalties, possible deportation and blacklisting from re-entry. The Philippines is very strict on visas. There are many instances of foreigners, (in the Philippines as tourists) having to pay large amounts before they can leave the Philippines, if they haven’t keep a valid visa. I have seen some having to find 300,000 pisos. After 6 months in the country you also need apply for a special permit to be allowed to leave. Not having a valid visa can be a pain in the Philippines. There are several Countries citizens that qualify for a VISA on arrival. You can check online if you are a citizen of one of those countries. You still need a VISA, but you don’t have to apply in advance, you can travel there, and when you pass through Immigration, they will stamp your passport with a 30 day tourist VISA. You can extend by visiting a local Immigration office and applying there for a fee.
