Depends on which hazard one is referring to. I’ve lived in this country all my life and I’ve only encountered very few. TYPHOON. Rain can fall in torrent especially during the wet season. International news groups have documented not only one but quite a number of typhoons that hit our country. Please take note though that warnings and precautionary announcements are broadcast continuously over the radio and on national television days before the landfall. In areas near the seas or oceans, there can be storm surges that can affect the areas fronting these bodies of water. MOTORCYCLES. These two-wheeled hazards can weave in and out of different lanes on the road. In my personal experience, some of them do counterflow just to avoid traffic and this poses danger to the vehicles on the proper lane. I once got hit by an over speeding motorcycle who all of a sudden appeared in front of my car. It was a blind curve with all the road signs strategically places on the roadsides. Motorcycles can also turn a 4-lane road into 8 or even 12 lanes despite the fact that there is a lane that are designated for them. Again, this is my personal observation and experience. PICKPOCKETS. Occasional pickpocket may exist in the metro. But i know this is not exclusive here in the Philippines. You just have to take care of your belongings as these culprits can force themselves in our jam-packed metros. I guess that just like in any country where tourism is a major source of income, we just have to make sure that we keep ourselves alert at all times. Connect with the locals and they’re willing to give you tips on how to avoid these hazards in our country.

Every place on earth can be hazardous, even inside your own house, if you don’t practice proper safety and vigilance. But with that being said, I’ve never felt that my life was in danger living there for more than 30 yrs. When there is a typhoon, I just make sure to stay indoors as much as possible. Listen to the news for any updates. This goes the same as when you are in any country with natural calamities. When I’m outside and take public transpo, I’m extra mindful of my stuff as pickpockets can chance upon you. I was picked a couple of times but luckily only small stuff was taken. None of real value because of my vigilance. My house was broken in once though, but it’s more of because of my carelessness (door locks were busted and I never bothered to fix it until the incident happened). When you’re in the streets be mindful of vehicles especially the tricycles and motorbikes, they are the ones who pose greater danger than cars since they can weave in and out of small streets in a jiff and can scratch or bump you. This is one I encounter much more frequently than any other dangers. Criminals also use motorbikes for robbing people especially at night, so be extra mindful of that. It has never happened to me and rarely do I hear about it happening to anyone I know of but it doesn’t mean that the danger isn’t there. Other than those, I don’t see any real hazard that could make me paranoid of being in the Philippines. It’s fun to go around the country just always take the right precautions.
