What city in the Philippines do you think would be the best for a (male) Westerner to retire in, and why, in case you are not fond of nightlife or extreme traffic?

It depends on your budget, tastes, and lifestyle Metro Manila is definitely the most westernized city in the country, every single western establishment you can’t think of will most likely have a branch here: Starbucks, McDonald's, Popeyes, Dennys, Tim Hortons, Taco Bell, etc. western products are readily available, Internet access is the fastest and most stable by Philippine standards, direct flights to and from North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia are plentiful, and it’s overall the most developed and cosmopolitan city in the country with the largest ex-pat population. All this comes at a price though, it is THE most expensive city in the country, rents easily go into the thousands of USD, price-wise, living in Metro Manila is akin to living in Houston or San Antonio, TX. Metro Cebu and Metro Davao are popular alternatives to Metro Manila as these cities are noticeable cheaper yet still very developed to the point that most amenities and products westerners are used to also readily available, however, being smaller cities, a few of the more niche western products and establishments won’t be available so don’t expect to find a Shake Shack or Popeyes. There are still large ex-pat populations in these cities but nowhere as numerous as in Manila

Puerto Princesa City in Palawan is a perfect place to retire for a male westerner. You can buy a piece of property near the sea for a relaxing view, traffic is not that bad (yet) and night life is not as extravagant as mega cities. In fact, you can see very people in the streets from 9 PM onwards. Palaweños are hospital, except for the tricycle drivers since they can rob you with their expensive fair matrix!
