The way of life is why I moved here. Well, that and the cost of living. That is much like Texas. Business??? I have come to hate the term priority customer. And lying seems to be the order of the day here. Suppliers lie to their customers and the customers lie to them. Wholesale is a relevant term. Mariton grocery qualifies as a wholesaler. But, anyone can buy there. Wholesale from most businesses means buying in bulk for the best price possible. Buying from street vendors is a crap shoot. You might get a good deal. You might get something that spoils the next day. If you are having a job done by a contractor, you can pretty much expect to pay someone else to fix what they did not do right, or did not finish because that is someone else's work. Warranties on car repair are pretty much unheard of… 24 hour warranted on an alternator??? Really? I have come to expect certain things and try to accept it as part of living here.

There are some basic rules for doing business in the Philippines. Employ only women as your managers. Really! Never pay anything in cash if you can help it. Follow every paper trail. Never get into corruption. Trust no one. Keep family out of the business. Never extend a loan. Never go guarantor for anything. Minimise the need for bank services.
