I’m an American who wants to move to the Philippines. I am 35 and have a bachelor’s degree with a background in education. I am interested in working with children with special needs. What is some advice or guidance?

As a Filipino, I'm glad to hear about someone abroad wanting to go to our country. Philippines is a decent country if you ask me, people are resilient here and yes, we are very accommodating. As a teen, I'm obviously younger than you so I might not say much about the things in your profession. Your question is quite generalized so What I'm going to say mostly is about advice when you're in the country. There are many pickpockets here. Better watch out for your valuables.(Urban Areas)Many people may greet you or glance at you. Don't worry, it's just that we are naturally welcoming and curious, some are just shy. (I myself am happy to see a foreigner, I don't know why)If you spot anything suspicious, try to stay away because you are hotter in the eyes of people.Enjoy your stay in the country. What you're doing is noble, keep it up! You are molding lives.Sorry can't give more xD Those are just practical information needed when you come here.

It is very difficult for foreigners to work in any field in the Philippines and if you do the pay will be terrible. Your best bet is to set something up with an NGO while in the US or just go as a volunteer to check out your opportunities.
