Every country of the world has its inherent frustrations and pleasures. As you live in a place you grow used to them and it becomes the norm for you. Then when you change countries you suddenly encounter a whole different set of frustrations and it can make you feel a bit crazy and miss where you came. The Philippines has its fare share of frustrations that make new arrivals a bit crazy. Transportation. You will have to deal with loud stinky open air Jeepnies gone are the quiet airconned mini vans of Thailand. Gone are the everpresent cheap taxis of Bangkok. The taxi situation in Manila is dreadfull. Housing. If you came from Thailand you would find it shockingly expensive. Food and medicine Due to heavy import tarries imposed on food and medicib items you will be shocked at the high prices. The island archapalegi makes food distribution expensive and time consuming and it will frustrate you attempt to buy fruit. The delights: The people are wonderful. They are warm and friendly. They will readally invite you in their home and share a meal with you. This is in sharp contrast to other Asian nations whitch tend to be suspicious or just unfriendly. (Many exceptions to this I admit) Christmas. You will be amazed and delighted at the level that Spanish and American culture has woven its self into the life there.

we could be here all day long going on and on about the SUPERFICIAL differences between the ASEAN nations and in particular their languages and religion however these differentials really are rather superficial. Ultimately they are cousins and sometimes closer than that. They all like karaoke, to dance if they are not too shy, and they all eat rice. I rest my case.
