I have visited both Thailand and the Philippines multiple times for the last 10 years, but for me I would live in the Philippines permanently if I had the opportunity. I love the country the people, and the food. Another big plus is that English is commonly spoken throughout the country. Thailand for me is an ideal place for a vacation, Chiang Mai is my favourite place in the world to visit, I return here whenever I get the opportunity. But I just don’t feel as though I would be comfortable living here permanently. However when in the Philippines, I feel more comfortable and at home. I would be happy to live here permanently.

Specifically, i would only like to compare their capitals – Bangkok vs Manila. It is quite likely i would choose Thailand. Being a native from Singapore, metropolitan Bangkok seems quite similar in terms of infrastructure and quality of life. Metro Manila is also very modern, but from my experience there is it slightly chaotic as well. Language. Both can speak English. Depending on your background, one may also learn the language. My vote goes to Tagalog since it is expressed with English alphabets. Political Stability. A bit of a misnomer for both countries. I think Thailand has the slight edge now in terms of control. Employment. Should not be difficult if you are in a field with a certain skill. Thailand with slight higher salary scale but in Philly likely lower income tax. Quality of life. Quite similar for both, depending on what type of entertainment you are looking for. Tourism. Again both have their strengths but i would say Philly is less crowded compared to Thailand. Both Bangkok and Manila are great cities and can’t go wrong, for me as a Singaporean – swing factor was distance to go home and Thailand edged it by two hours.
