I’m sorry that you’re going through so many things right now. The number 1 thing you should be focusing on is not being unhappy. First of all, maybe something is going on with you that you are not disclosing. My suggestion is to talk to someone about it. I know what you are going through. I have been there. I sought help, professional help, and I’m better. It’s easy to run away from your problems, you can forget them and that’s okay. But unless you change your perspective they will still be there. I’m going to suggest something, but you don’t have to take it to heart. You are always free to make your own decisions. What matters is that you are happy and that you are satisfied with your life. First of all I have studied in both countries and I can tell you that education is better in the US. I too was an A and B student, going to honors classes. I wasn’t happy. I went to the Philippines and had a lot of fun. The education was not good. I had so much fun with my friends but I was also trying to numb myself to how much I was not learning. And this was in one of the most expensive schools in the Philippines. As an adult now I really regret some parts of my life not finishing my education in the US. The Philippines is a fun place until you need to find a job, and find out the harsh reality that Philippine society and the government is rough on the edges. I don’t doubt that your cousins are warm and that they love you genuinely. I think since you’re smart you really need something to feed your senses with. A good vacation, warm people and new experiences. What’s stopping you from visiting them every year? What’s stopping you from going around the US with some friends for a joyride? A good education is going to be the easiest ticket to the world for you. Some people have done without, but it is a lot harder. I would suggest to ponder about the level of education you can have in the US as opposed to the Philippines. Still the most important thing is that you are happy :).

Thank you for the A2A. I feel sorry that at your age you feel that way. I’ll just be honest and say go ahead and come over to the Philippines. You already experienced what it’s like to be here so go ahead and pack your bags tell your parents that this is what you want and that will make you feel better. I understand that you feel bad and somehow it is affecting your studies and it could get worse. You are young, you have a lot to learn and maybe a developing country like the Philippines will give you a better perspective. Since you’re only 17, you might need assistance from your parents. As you go through your life here, be smart enough to be a little independent. If you are going to live in Manila, then expect a few inconvenience, like traffic, commuting, the weather and few idiots along the way. It will be a different story if you will be living in other cities like Cebu. I heard that it is much more convenient there. You will only be young once and I think it is fair that you enjoy it. Study hard, make friends, volunteer to charity, enjoy the country and culture, go back to the US once in a while and repeat. When you get older and wiser, then you can decide where would like to stay permanently.
