What strikes first time visitors as special or unusual when they arrive in Pasig City, Philippines?

I was born in Bukidnon, Mindanao and lived there for 21 years. I came to Pasig City 19 years ago. These are the things I noticed compared to my homeland. The air. It's difficult to breathe for a week before I got used to it. It felt sticky on my skin. I'm used to the clean and fresh air of my homeland. I was surprised the dust here is dark like that of an exhaust of vehicles. From where I came from the dust is light brown. The sky is a bit dark .The old houses and the old church. I'm a history buff so I love very old stuff. I love the Pasig Immaculate Cathedral, the old houses of the Tech's, Gomez, Alfonso, Pasig Museum, the monuments of Gat Andres Bonifacio and Jose Rizal, Dimas alang Bakery, etc.The volume of vehicles. In my first week here, I couldn't sleep well because the vehicles are still noisy at night then I learned later the traffic never stop even at night, it's a 24 hours thing!!! Almost everywhere there is traffic jam. And the vehicles are park just along the street shoulders causing more congestion to the traffic flow. I wish car towing is strict here, it will help improve the traffic jam.The park. I love the parks here, they are well kept especially Rainforest, back of the Pasig City Hall, and Rizal Park in front of the Padig Church. They warned me not to stay in Rizal Park or people will think I'm one of the hookers. But now it's cleaned up and very child friendly. There are many trees here.The government facilities. The Pasig City Hall is very modern 8 story edifice and presentable. The Pasig City Mega Market is huge with many affordable goods to choose from if you can tolerate the heat and smell. The health centers are very nice including the health workers and functional. The child hope hospital is modern. The public school buildings are nice and identical usually upto 5 stories. The biggest high school in the world terms of population is here—Rizal High School. The roads are constantly cleaned by sweepers. There are many undisciplined people here who just throw their garbage anywhere including along creeks and river.The people. The rich ones lived in big houses in a well fenced wide perimeter and you can hardly see them. The informal settlers are concentrated in inner crowded barangay areas, densely populated where you can see people playing bingo and card games and gambling, drinking, talking, children playing, living in light material small houses. They seem to know each other. They usually don't bother you. Even at night you can still see people loitering even the young ones. There are many work and source of livelihood here if you work hard, you won't go hungry. The city officials have many projects for the benefit of the people. They should be thankful for that, from where I came from we don't get those perks.The malls and big groceries stores. They're huge and air conditioned, very good place for shopping and free Wi-Fi. You will enjoy them even if you don't spend much-window shopping. Even at night there are many 24hours convenient stores.Food vendors are everywhere. If you have cash, you won't get hungry!!!Over all, it's a livable city, come and see for yourself.

I was born and lived in Tondo Manila until we had to move to Pasig way back year 2000. All I can say is Pasig is a disciplined city. Traffic is given, same as with any city in the Metro but one thing you’ll notice if its your first time in Pasig especially if you are commuting via jeepney is that you can’t just stop anywhere you want. You can’t just say “para!” (stop) and expect the driver to just simply pull over. There are designated jeepney stops everywhere. And locals would know if you are a visitor in the area if you ask the driver to just drop you off. Pasig is also the 3rd when it comes to highest income tax per capita as far as I recall. Makati as being the first. We are proud of being the cleanest and greenest city in the metro as well. We have Ortigas which is the heart of the business district. Students from kindergarten up to High School from public schools receives school supplies from our beloved Mayor Eusebio. From books, notebooks, bags, shoes, rubber shoes, school and P.E uniforms, even raincoats are free! In short, Pasig City is considered as one of the most outstanding, safe and environment friendly city of Metro Manila. And I am proud to be one of its citizen!
