You’re not in a bad situation, and I can imagine you’re earning something like $800 a month for a low income, which in the Philippines can easily be translated to PhP40,000 a month with 1 USD equivalent to at least PhP50.00. I know this because I have met many people who have quit their lives at least here in NYC (due to retirement, health reasons, major events in their lives), and then moved back somewhere in the many parts of the Philippines. I even see some of them when they come back for brief visits. I highly suggest you stay in one of the smaller cities, choose where ever you want to stay in the islands, just don’t stay in Metro Manila as it’s going to cost you more. Don’t move around too much, as you need to have some ground to feel secure and stable. The estimated PhP 40,000 a month will, certainly, go a long way there. Don't ever lend your money away for whatever reason, as you have to take care of yourself first. Get a really cheap secure apartment in the downtown area (or the main street of the town) where there’s public transportation, plus hire a part-time personal helper who will do your cooking, laundry, cleaning, shopping. Many will grab that opportunity. That person will also be your reliable contact to the community. Treat the person well. Just make sure you’re wise enough not to misspend your monthly income on really frivolous things. I am sure you’ll pay more for power (especially for airconditioning, which is generally a luxury in the islands), phone, internet, and those food items you’ll be missing when you’re in the Philippines. All the other daily life items, you can probably afford with that income. Plus, don’t get sick as it’s going to be a different matter altogether. You’ll be able to hack this for the next 5 years. Then move again, somewhere. All the best.

Half decade isn't holiday. Which you'll realize within the very first week of your dream vacation. Vacations are an escape. Believe me. It doesn't take 60 years of your life to realize it. If you can change your situation with a little introspection, which is called the inside journey. Life can be just as a vacation. Without put a step outside of your home. I know the above two Paras won't be convincing. So here is the solution to your unique case. As a low paying job. Which means you have common skills. Those type of one's which could be put to use anywhere. Now comes the comprising part. Get a job which matches your skills in the Philippines. Earn money there, spend it on the weekends. Leave the current city & job and move to the next city. Keep doing this for 5 years. One thing good about low paying jobs are commitments. You can leave them anytime.
