You are mistaken. In fact our houses specially those built from the 1900 – 1960’s were built to accommodate family members. Due to us settling from grandma to the new born child in one home our house designs were built for that. Only the corruption of some home builders whose main aim is profit and the lax implementation of housing codes that there are currently has a problem. Look at the extensions being done by some home owners they extend their building up to the side walk areas hence there are no more side walks. It is designed that a sidewalk should at least 6 meter wide but what happened the homeowners occupied it. There is no country in SEA where you can see vendors occupying boulevards and streets with their wares. There is a daily battle between the govt. hawkers and sidewalk vendors. There is a need to allocate at least a hundred hectares for them to sell their wares. There should be an urban renewal in places like Divisoria, Cubao, Taft Ave. , Espana Blvd. Rizal Ave. etc. The design must be done rationally so that they will not obstruct traffic.
