I have yet to meet an American woman who cared for the misogynistic shit show they will have to put up with out of universities here. Furthermore being a Fil-Am will afford you absolutely no social rank among the social rank happy university system. Day one you will be told “All students are equal, but some of you are a little more equal than others.” If you can deal with that, will you be happy with extremely long days with almost no flexibility in your course of study? Filipino university life is completely unlike anything you can imagine or have prepared yourself for. Depending on where you go to school it is not uncommon to spend up to 2 hours each way on your commute, as a young American woman it is unlikely that you will want to live on your own in any neighborhood near your university. Do you speak Filipino? Unless you do you will be socially isolated at college. a lot of them only allow Filipino and English on campus, and most people here don’t socialize in English given the option. If you are planning on going to school anywhere in the south and don’t speak Bisaya as well as Filipino you will be socially isolate on and off campus. The Spanish you listed as speaking will do you no good here, as the bulk of the Spanish speakers here are the very old and middle aged+ Spanish men seeking out young Filipina company. How do you plan on supporting yourself through college? There are no part time jobs for students, even if you had time in which to have one, which you won’t. My final question to you is as a young American woman, why in the hell live and work here? Just what is it you are planning on doing here? Your Fil-Am status isn’t going to get you a high paying job. Unless your family here have some serious political muscle, which I doubt based on the nature of this question, you will end up being one more young woman with a degree facing a low paying job market. These are all things you will need to answer for yourself and I tell them to you as a fellow American, and someone supporting his wife, her two sisters, and 2 cousins through college here in Davao. If you have some specific questions you can PM me.

Go to college in the US and then proceed with your plan to work in the Philippines after. Your American college will be more competitive than any colleges in the Philippines. Also, the internship you will get in the US will be a lot better. One thing you also need to understand is the amount of daily exams and homeworks in the Philippines. With the sheer amoubt of daily tasks at hand you will be having difficulty with working part time.
