Because you’re in a certain place that has a certain dynamic and type of people there. That is not the whole story, I’ve known white guys who dated rich or middle class Filipinas, since Filipinas are actually present in many countries. The white foreigners you probably see are not very wealthy but they can get better perceived value in a wife by going for girls from the vast poverty class, which is what the Philippines is — albeit it has a few enclaves for the rich. So you see them with poor Filipinas, because almost all Filipinas in the Philippines are poor. The average Filipino makes around 267K PHP which is about 5531 USD per year, or 461 USD per month. These are the working people in government statistics. There are about 43 million working Filipinos for a population of 107 million (children, elderly, stay at home moms), so each working Filipino supports 2.5 people on average, meaning each person gets around 180 dollars per month in income. Of course these numbers are probably not exact but it does show how extremely poor they are, and if you go there that’s exactly what you see. White foreigners who have money to travel to the Philippines are likely to be looking for other features in women than their money. Can you blame them? They’re not gold diggers :). Note that the vast majority of white foreign men do not have money (or time or desire) to travel to the Philippines, so you won’t see them there to begin with. They’re too poor or scared to travel, or they’re rich and working or they’re living in families, so you won’t see them chasing after rich (or poor) Filipinas. If you see a white guy in the Philippines that already tells you something — he actually paid for an expensive ticket, got on the plane and took a very long plane ride there. If you understand white people, that’s a huge thing. The guy could have bought a very decent used car or a super high-end computer or stereo system from the money he’s spending on just one trip. https://psa.gov.ph/content/statistical-tables-2018-family-income-and-expenditure-survey

A lot of good one and a few biased answer. I’m living overseas since the last 15 years and I witness a few. My spouse is asian too (well, difficult to find a french lady to court when you live in South east asia). There is middle class or well to do who marry with foreigner, a few of my colleagues (french) did marry filipina from good background (they met at university or at work). You may have a lot of normal mixed marriage in the expatriate community. Socio economic reasons will prevail . Quality of life is far from horrendous for the middle class- high class locals in both philippine, Thailand and Vietnam. Well to do women will not look for foreigner as a preferred or last resort to marry. Divorce is rare in philippine. then most of the one looking to marry will be young. The old foreigner will be a partner of choice for a lot of destitute/poorer class women, irrespective of their age simply because their prospect are not so great (through their education, social network or condition) and all weight put in, the old fart maybe better than the local guys (hard working or not) which may eventually court them (I don’t mean anything disrespectful there, I saw and work with plenty of filipino oversea). The old foreigner will have more wealth, most of them in a part of their life when they don’t have to hustle for work and more time for relationship. A lot of them will also be more accepting of the career choice of their prospect also (in the case the said local was a bar girl) or previous life parcours dent (divorce, child born out of wedlock etc, which are frown upon). On the locals, you have a lot of women who are not in a good place (the bar girls notably, the foreigner may be the last one to settle with them) or other, more hard working but stuck socially women (low level jobs, first husband gone and child to take care off). There is a few true gold diggers in the lot, who will just go and grab for money and a lot more who look for happiness. Mind that amongst a lot of the foreigner, yes there is some creeps (a few). You are going to find actually the waste majority of them are divorced / broken guys on a personal level, divorced late in life, and a bad one in a lot of case. I talked to many, some did not see it coming, some did actually look for it (guys on fly in fly out who maintains two or three lady friends prior to fly back to the regular) or taken by their career. Some (especially those not living overseas) are going after what’s perceived as an obedient potential wife, which they think is appealing (I personally find it funny). Had a work relationship, the guys was really making a dol around, he had a sad story (ex wife in France was a lunatic and alchoholic,he cared to her until she passed, kids grown up), he was just dating around with female significantly younger (that was somehow creepy). A few believed they are saving their prospect (kof kof, come on, even the thai bar girls love their local life and are not looking to go overseas, that mostly the younger one). There is people who got a genuine understanding and deals and a lot who commit to something on false premises or fantasy (I’m stating that for both side). I met once with a young lady in Jakarta (in her mid twenty) who was waiting for her old prince (what someone will call an old creep). They knew perfectly the in /out and why they are in this relationship, he cares for her with limits, was respectful and treated her like a princess, she returned in kind. What is an healthy relationship ? In some aspects, yes, grounded, in other no and not one to last.
