It all depends on your life style, your needs and expectations, … Philippines can be cheap if you want a simple life and buy local goods. food is cheapClothes are cheapDrinks are cheap, alcohol beverage or notmost services are cheaprenting or building is cheap, but you can t own the landIt can be extremly expensive if you want some comfort. It was 3 years ago the most expensive electricity in the world in some cities (electric service company scam), it s now about the 5th…Yet unreliable, expect 100 hours of brownout a year or more, some town in palawan have 6 hours of electricity a day.The most expensive internet in the world with crap customer service, unreliable, and you only get the net, no phone, nor TV in some cases.Imported goods are…so expensive, 2 to 5 times the price, get used to it, Philippines destiny is in the hands of a very few scamming oligarchs. If you want an idea, compare Lazada Philippines: Online Shopping at Best Deals, Discounts & Prices! or SMapplainces to Amazon…enjoy.Philippines is a paradise for fruits and veggies, yet, you don t have much choices in supermarkets, and prices are very high compared to wet markets or province…And many fruits are imported, then expensive. Many Filipino will abuse you and inflate prices because you re a foreigner, and a foreigner is always a millionnaire.Doctors are pathetic of ignorance, all of them, yet some will scam you, and they can boast to be more expensive than Singapore, and have the highest rate of staphylococcus aureus resistant to anti biotics in Asia. So it s never good to be sick in Philippines. Doctors work in several hospitals, 5 or more, they lack of clients and there are too many hospitals. Our pedia has 2 offices and works in 4 hospitals…Everything about health is very expensive, vaccines, médecines, hospitalisation, …gas is pretty expensive, about 1$ per liter, in France it s 1.5$ but there s 80% tax on it…Duterte promised to change those monopole, so far he hold his words, let s see about that. All in All, it s the most expensive country in South East Asia, by far, after Singapore , and you get the worse service as the concurrence has been kept low and foreign concurrence inexistant by corrupted governements for decades. If you want to live better with 2000$ you d rather choose Indonesia or Malaysia, if muslim countries are bothering you, Vietnam, Thailand, are still a better choice. I lived in Indonesia and Malaysia, and i enjoyed it, i felt safe, and muslim there are kind and helpful. (not all of course) Now, you don t go to Philippines for its historical monuments or the best quality of life. You have a descent life yet with that money, an amazing nature, good food despite what people say, you can easily find a peacefull and beautiful place, Most of Filipino can talk english and are welcoming… Do not Believe they re so kind and hospitalable too, etc…some are, some are not, keep in mind that many vote for duterte because they hate westerners, and Duterte was promising to break with american (corrupting) leaders. watch this video at 16:00 or so…and you will know what some Filipinos really think behind their smile. They re not a majority, just like in any country, racism exists, this video is pure propaganda, but what matters is his way of thinking. He s disgusted by westerners with Filipina, and many men think the same…ya, there is no reciprocity, western women don t have eyes for Pinoys.. I wonder why, i ve seen many western women with balinese men, but witnessed only 2 couples like this in Philippines. Just want to say, Filipino, despite of what some say, are not better than any other people or “races”, but they re not worse too…They re just normal, with qualities and flows, they re like anywhere else. I ve met amazing Filipino, helpful, poor and yet would invite you to share their meal but i also met very racist ones or disrespectful…You also have to keep in mind, that Filipino are not the most racist in Philippines, many foreigners act like crap, treat them bad, disrespect them, treat pinays like cheap and easy women, etc…

That is good enough if you live in the cities outside Manila like Dumaguete, Puerto Princesa,Palawan or Baguio. Your $2k is 100k Pesos. 20k for house rental should be decent in these cities. 80k is more than enough to cover food and leisure. You just have some buffer for medical bills.
