What makes Bontoc, Mountain Province, the Philippines a great destination in 2019?

Sagada, the neigboring town of Bontoc, is the more popular destination. In contrast with Sagada which is located in the upper slopes of the mountains, Bontoc is in a fertile river valley, with an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. It has its own rice terraces. You may also enjoy the view of Chico River as it finds its way through the mountains. Bontoc is the provincial capital. It is more commercialized than Sagada. There is Jollibee there. Whenever a town has a Jollibee, it means it is a commercial center. Bontoc is an isolated commercial center deep into the mountain range. The town has several hotels. It is a public transportation hub. You can choose Bontoc as your hub to Sagada and other interesting destinations. Banaue (rice terraces) and Tinglayan (Palan-ah falls, “sleeping beauty mountain”, “Apo Whang-od” – oldest tatoo artist in the Philippines) are around 2 hours scenic ride away, plus hiking…

Bontoc, for me, is such an underrated tourist area as compared to the likes of Baguio and Sagada maybe due to its more laid back setting which actually is more appealing to nature lovers due to less buildings and more nature. Maligcong in Bontoc is very beauuuutiful. I super enjoyed hiking there!
