I grew up in Iloilo City but I’ve been away for 10 years so I’m sure lots of things would have changed by now. So take what I’m saying with a grain of salt. If there is one thing that Ilonggos love, it’s food. So there are a great number of really delicious restaurants. You must definitely try Lapaz Batchoy. There are 2 restaurants you can try for this, Ted’s Lapaz Batchoy and Decos. Make sure you eat it with Puto. Though these restaurants can now be found nationwide, they have their original roots in Iloilo city. Second is Inasal. This is basically marinated grilled chicken. The best place to have this would be at Port San Pedro. Have it with some rice, sauce, and a cold beer if you drink. This is by the seaside. The best time to eat here would be sunset. There is also Mang Inasal, which is now a national food chain but it doesn’t beat Port San Pedro in taste. You should also try the different kinds of seafood dishes. There are too many to mention but the restaurants that you should go to would be Tatoy’s and Breakthrough. I suggest having Talaba (Oysters) and maybe grilled Tangigue or some Mussels. Grilled Bangus (milkfish) is good as well and stuffed squid.

If you want Filipino food, then go for (1) Avana Restaurant in Molo, (2) Buto’t Balat Restaurant in Jaro, Downtown and near SM City, (3) Punot Restaurant in Smallville, (4) Kamalig Restaurant in Robinsons Jaro and Atria, (5) Mesa Restaurant at SM City, and (6) Muelle and Deli Restaurant in Lapuz. Just tell the taxi driver. They know these places. You may also want to try (1) Dova and (2) Farm To Table at Megaworld, (3) Bistro Carcosa at Gen. Luna near UP (classy dining), (4) Freddys and (5) Al Dente at Sarabia Manor Hotel, (6) Misto at Seda Atria, (7) Emilion at Grand Dame Hotel in Lapaz (for buffet), (8) Jamie’s Steak Room at SM City Southpoint, (9) Olio at Westown Hotel Smallville, and (10) Dads Diner (perfect budget dining), (11) Ponsyon, and (12) Steps of Rome at Plazuela. These are my honest recommendations. I have been here many times and have compared them with many others. Nothing beats GOOD food.
