Tagged as the Philippines’ summer capital, Baguio City is the favourite destination of locals, tourists and holidaymakers anytime of the year. Because of its altitude the cool weather has remained a perfectly good reason for people to troop to the cool mountains of the Cordillera. With a year-round cool climate, a variety of cultural, historical and fantastic sceneries, Baguio never fails to delight visitors and tourists as they experience an entirely different taste of the Philippines. Visitors usually troop to the highlands during the hot summer months of March, April and May especially during the Lenten Season. Baguio is teeming with people from all over, savouring the cool climate which is only felt in this place. The city, a popular tourist destination and well-known for its cooler climate, is also rich with history. A few spots that remind us of these connections to American presence in the Philippines. So like any other places in the Philippines, most Americans would find the place worthwhile and worth staying.

Is Baguio City the coolest climate in the Philippines? I’m guessing not. Although it is certainly significantly cooler than sea level locations, it sits at a mere 4800ft above sea level. Now the Philippines may not have any mountains nearly as high as Borneo’s Kinabalu or New Guinea’s Puncak Jaya. But there are many other locations in the Philippines that are higher than Baguio City, including 9600ft Mount Pulag (the highest point on Luzon). On top of Mount Pulag, nighttime temperatures are known to get below freezing at times. Especially in winter. And sleet is known to fall there. Snow has even been seen, although not in some time. In other words, the summit of Mount Pulag is DEFINITELY colder than Baguio City. The same goes for other higher mountaintop locations, such as Mayon Volcano (8081ft) or Mount Apo (9692ft – highest peak in the Philippines). But Mount Pulag’s location in Northern Luzon likely makes it a shoe-in for the coldest location in the Philippines.
