According to the Crime Index 2020. Philippines seems to have a lower crime rate than Vietnam. However, it's not a true indicator of safety as it fails to measure internal and external factors like the severity and occurrence of the crime. Vietnam has one of the lowest murder/homocide rates in the world. Violent crimes like armed robbery, kidnappings, rape and murder is very rare. Firearms are banned and is illegal for citizens to own a gun. However, petty crimes is common like theft, vandalism, pick pocketing and scams. Where as in the Philippines it has a moderately high rate of violet crimes like murder, assault, robbery, gang related gun crime, kidnapping, drug trafficking and domestic violence. The Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Peace Index (GPI) for 2020, which is considered the leading measure of global peacefulness. The ranking is based on 23 indicators grouped into three criteria (societal safety and security; extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict; and degree of militarization), Vietnam rank 64th out of 163 countries, 12th in the Asia-Pacific region. It has lower crime rates, little to no terrorism and violent demonstrations. I feel safer in Vietnam than I did in the US. As for the Philippines, I wouldn’t go there on a bet. The current administration encourages the murder of drug users and I like my green from time to time. Also, I’m unaware of any terrorist activity in Vietnam while the Philippines seems to be in a constant state of rebellion.
