Indonesia, in contrast with the Philippines is composed of of 3 main islands, Java, Borneo and Sumatra, with a governmental control and a variety of resources and, being the 4th largest country with the largest Islamic majority in the world, has stringent control politically, economical and ethnic control virtually centered in the vortex of eat -west travel corridor to all cardinal points of the compass in the general area. The Philippines has a far smaller population spread over some thousands islands, much striven with violent insurrection and drug abuse, with a dictator willing to use extraordinary fatal consequences to put down moral and criminal rebellion. Unemployment is a key factor, in addition to poor cultivation of resources, as they may exist. It is generally situate in the path of sea-borne passage east and west and with poor respect, in spite of R.C. prevalence, for authority. It is, due to proximity, more influenced by both China and Japan to emphasize its independence. The crime rate is severe, greatly escalated due to drug addiction and reliant on foreign workers’ remittances. There is far more emigration, particularly of well-trained health workers to earn family income abroad to return those remittances. The people are torn as to their heritage of Spanish dominion to adaptation to the new modern age. Yet, Manila was under the Spanish rule, from the 16th Century to the 19th, a maritime crossroads E and W through the Panama Isthmus for trade to Europe, with a world-wide view. The financial corruption of the Marcus family drained the economics and cohesiveness of the population as well as institution of a moral collapse of the people with effect to this day.

Indonesia is more developed as of today, it scored higher in education, healthcare, infrastructure and hdi. Not by super far though, so the philippines can still catch up should it experience relatively stable growth.
