We moved to the province back in November as we'd had more than enough of Manila. However, I lived there for three years beforehand so I can give you some insight. APARTMENT: I was living in Mandaluyong and renting a 75sqm apartment, fully furnished for PHP25,000 per month. UTILITY BILLS: electric is just ridiculously expensive in the Philippines. I was spending an average of PHP6,000 per month. That would include using aircon around eight hours per day when I was in bed. My oven was gas so there was no cooking no invlved in that figure. Purely lights, gadget charging, TV and hot water. Water was around PHP250 per month. GAS: I'd buy a gas cylinder for my oven at PHP800 which would last around 10 weeks, making around PHP330 per month. MAID: I had someone come in two full days per week to clean my apartment, and shed also do all of my ironing. I paid her PHP800 per day. That's a bit too much, but she was excellent and trustworthy so I didn't mind. you could probably find someone for around PHP500 per day inflow made an effort. COMMUNICATIONS: I had broadband at home with Globe Telecom at PHP1,500 per month. Internet in the Philipines is among the slowest in the world, you have been warned. that package also included free calls to all landlines in Metro Manila, plus, calls to any Globe Telecom cell phone number. For my cell phone, I was loading around PHP2,000 per month. GROCERY SHOPPING: There was a big Robinsons Mall and supermarket opposite our building, many that's where we'd do most of our shopping. I'm a keen cook, and like to eat well. We'd spend around PHP30,000 per month on general food shopping. I stress though, this is very high by my choice, and you can live comfortably for a lot less, especially if you do your shopping at the wet markets. ENTERTAINMENT: This is where most of my money went! I have a big circle of friends in Manila and not only did we go drinking often together, but also enjoyed other activities such as taking a long weekend in Boracay for example, as well as house parties, shows at the theatre and the odd evening in a nice hotel in Manila for drinks and food. I'd guesstimate that my going out money averaged around PHP60,000 per month but, again,mr hats very high because of my choice of lifestyle. IMMIGRATION: you'll need to extend your visa regularly. Unless you have the backing of an employer this will cost around PHP5,000 per month. TRANSPORT: use Grab Car or Uber, if you use a normal taxi in Manila you WILL get ripped off. I'd spend an average of around PHP3,000 per month getting around town. So, my expenses were around PHP137,000 per month, but as I've said, that was enjoying a very comfortable standard of living.

Here’s a screenshot of my weekly transportation. In Philippine Peso (PHP) I live in Mandaluyong and go to work in Alabang. Most work days I go to Makati for CrossFit, which, obviously, adds in my transportation expense hence 2 scenarios. These include jeepney, tricycle and bus. Note that if you live near your job and gym, you won’t have to pay this much for transportation. And then here’s a screenshot of my fixed expenses. In Philippine Peso (PHP) Our company gives a two-weeks payout, so the red part is the first two weeks and the navy blue is the last two weeks of the month. Grocery already includes the food I bring in the office, we exceed most of the time, but nothing more than P2,000.00 per month. This does not include my gym membership and investments because they are flexible. I can always drop my membership and investments are private, obviously 🙂 Lifestyle: I rarely go to the movies, or eat & drink with my friends. I’m usually sleeping or doing chores at home during the weekends. And I don’t eat out during work days, my fiancé is really good at cooking. If you break it down, most work days, I believe I spend an average of P500.00/day on fixed expenses, excluding rent & utilities.
