I don’t think there is an expiry. (Filipino lawyers: please corrrect me if i’m wrong). Some folks even say that civil weddings are more legal than church officiated rites but they basically have the same effect; I think. Just make sure that the documents (wedding certificate) you or your friends fill up reach the National Statistics Office (NSO) to make it official (I’m sure of this) unless overruled by annullment. I once attended a civil wedding in Manila City Hall which turned out be fake later on. Either the guy was already married or he connived with the officiating officer not to submit the documents.

No expiration and if your marriage is no longer what you dream about you can file for annulment. I'm not sure ho much it will cost. My friend spends so much money because she wants her marriage to get annulled, she can't go back and forth to the Philippines to do it because we have a job here. There's no more love and she wants to move on with her life. So be ready financially if you have to end your marriage.
