Live CommonLaw in the Phillipines (i.e. unmarried but living together): For most foreigners this is the best choice. That gives you the most freedom and most options in case things turn bad. The expectation to support/assist her family remains irrespective of the commonlaw status. upside to Foreigner: staying in the PH gives the Westerner the upperhand and more control: why? Because there is a huge pool of young attractive alternatives for the foreigner in the PH, so threat of competition regulates her behaviour. There is a stigma for Filipinas living unmarried with a Westerner. She is considered ‘lower status’ & there is pressure from family & friends to get the marriage certificate b/c the family knows it will be ‘easier’ to squeeze financial support from the foreigner if he is ‘officially’ a part of the family

Get Married & live together in the Philippines: There's still not a huge benefit for you as a foreigner in getting married . Although being married here in the Philippines doesn't put you at too much risk financially if you have a good prenup.

Get Married & move to the Westerner’s HomeCountry: 90% of the time, this is the worst choice! Upsides to Filipina: she gets a Visa to leave the PH (which is significant, b/c Filipino’s external travel is restricted). In the Westerner’s home country, her ‘value’ will increase because of her ‘exoticism’. She will quickly have many suitors and admirers and because of this will have the upper hand in the relationship. Depending on the country she moves to, there will be a support group of expat Filipinas who will quickly educate her about how to maneuver in her new country and her reliance on her original Western husband will be diluted. If you don't understand and properly assess the risks involved with this move, then you're flirting with disaster.
