I lived in both countries for more than 20 years now. Since the question did not define the points of comparison needed, I’ll do it myself. LanguageBoth countries have good grasp of English. Many claim that Philippinos are better in English compared to Malaysians. This is not true at all. You can find good and bad English speakers in both countries. Most of the city dwellers are better in conversing in the language compared to those who live outside of it. This is a very common issue in every country. The difference is that Malaysia uses British English while the Philippines uses US English. This is very important because if you are more inclined towards the US version of English, you can find that people from both countries are well versed in it (thanks to the Hollywood) but if you are more inclined towards British English, you will have a very difficult time to converse while in the Philippines.In the Philippines, some of the common languages used among them apart from English are Tagalog, Cebuano, and Kepampangan. All these are their local languages. While Malaysia is a very diverse multi-racial and multi-religious country, there are many languages that were brought in from other countries such as India and China. Apart from English and Malay languages, the Indians use Tamil as the common language among themselves even though their mother tongues is not the same. They could be Tamil, Telegu, Malayalis, Punjabis, Kannadas, and many other distinct languages. The same could be said for the Chinese where the common language for them in the Northern parts of Malaysia would be Hokkien and the Central is Cantonese. There are others as well such as Hakka and more but they are being taught in Mandarin as the official language in Chinese schools. So each of them have to master at least 3 languages; English, Malay, and Tamil or Mandarin. This brings along the entirely diverse cultures together while creating new ones. This is the pinnacle of the beauty of Malaysian living. Despite maintaining their own cultures, languages, traditions they are still able to unite as one big family and create a unique culture for themselves. BeachesThere are a lot of beaches in both countries. In Malaysia, the east coast of the peninsula in full of beaches with white sands from north to the south. The same goes for the Borneo island where the beaches start from Sarawak coastline all the way to Northeast of Sabah till it reaches its Indonesian border. Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Kapas, Pulau Sipadan, Pantai Chenang, Pantai Cinta Berahi, Pantai Cherating, are just some of the best beaches in Malaysia. Pulau Sipadan is listed as one of the world's best locations for scuba diving and snorkeling. When I was in the Philippines, I had a very bad experience. I was one of the so-called beautiful beaches, Batangas beach. While we were swimming around, we saw a lot of human wastes (poops) floating around and it traumatized the entire family till a decade later. I won’t go there ever again. But I’m not saying the other places are equally bad. The price of food was expensive for us, especially for foreigners. We had to use our local contact to buy everything from food to gift items. The shop owners marking up the price to 3 times the original price. That was not an isolated incident. There are other beautiful beaches in the Philippines such as Boracay, Puerto Galera, Alona Beach, Cagayan Valley, Bantayan Island, Caramoan, Camarines Sur, and El Nido, Palawan. The Boracay is considered the best beach in the republic but had to be closed in 2018 due to rapid development and pollution. City living. Back in the Philippines, safety is an issue every foreigner should think about. While in traffic or while commuting in public transport, make sure that your safety is your primary concern. Do not flash your cahs or expensive mobile phones. If you are traveling by car such as taxi or Uber, make sure you lock the door as soon as you sit in it. Otherwise, snatchers will open the door and snatch whatever they can see on you. Even the street kids and beggars will simply open the door to ask for some money from you. Be careful if you look different from the locals as you will be the primary target for these criminals. It is easy to get guns in the Philippines compared to Malaysia so if you were robbed in there, do not chase after these robbers because there will always someone hiding, waiting to fire at you if you do so. Food. You can’t talk about Malaysia if you didn’t talk about food. Known to the world as the Food Paradise or Food Haven because you can find all sorts of foods at almost any time of the day or night. Many eateries are open 24/7. You can find food such as Mexican, Korean, Japanese, Middle Eastern, South Asian, Mediterranean, African. You name it and you can get them there. So if you are very sensitive to a certain food, you have nothing to worry about. ForeignersMalaysia’s tourism tag is “Malaysia is Truly Asia” is right to the very word because you can find a huge group of foreign workers and expatriates everywhere in the country. The city is filled with them on Sundays especially around Kuala Lumpur City bus station. Almost every street you take, you’ll find it filled with people from different countries. Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, Myanmarians, Nepalese, Indonesians, Filipinos, Cambodians, Arabs, and Africans set up stores and business centers along these streets.

Having lived in both, I prefer to live in Malaysia. Well they both have, English speaking so that is convent when you compared to other places in the region. Filipino, are among the nicest people in the world. They are both cheap places. Being places as a country 84 and 92 respectively. Cost of Living Index by Country 2020 So why do I prefer Malaysia, like I said one thing that I like is the English speaking but this is done in both countries. Then when going to Malaysia, you will be shocked about good the country was,the country bus services work and the cars are modern. It is just quite amazing, when you compared it to other places in the south east Asia region. Living in KL and Penang, people are nice transportation systems are new and up to date. The food is great and have shopping malls every where. Personally i really like it. I will say though it is not with out its fall it is still developing so it is not Singapore, and traffic in the city center is still bad. Manila Slums But when compared to Manila, well the people are nice that is one of the only good thing about the place. The traffic is awful, the rail line is crowded and old and a lot of people live in slums with the city is pretty messy. Although it does have some nice ares such as BGC and Makati. Also worse than KL but, what it does have in the worlds best beaches and island, Malaysia is no slouch where this is concerned with some great, places and very easy to get to but the Philippines tops it for me.
