How nice of a house can we build in the Philippines, province with 2 million Pesos? We want a 2 bedroom. My wife owns the land.

First, if you aren’t a Filipino don’t let it be known you are involved. A lot of contractors and maybe some of her family even will milk you for every peso. Tell people you are willing to spend half that amount and you may be lucky to get away with only spending 1 million. Are you planning on doing any of the work yourself? What sort of plan are you looking forward to? In my opinion your best bet is to start with the CR, build it well and so that you are comfortable. Anything beyond that can be done as cheaply or as expensively as you want to. If you are coming from the US I will also suggest you wire part of your kitchen for 110 volt 20 amp so you use American small kitchen appliances.

Thats about what my father and step mum spent on a provincial home for their mum in Quezon. if you can be really lucky and organise with trustworthy local labour and resources you should be able to get a simple 2 bedroom together— but you might not fill it with much more than bare walls.
