Hollow block is the material of choice for house construction in the Philippines, not just for the outer walls but the inner walls as well. Aside from sheetrock to be unsuitable for high moisture environments, it is also the skill of the laborers as most of them are just familiar with masonry works. Specialized laborers to install sheetrock or any other equivalent for inner walls is mostly contained to commercial construction only.

because people are just not familiar with it. we have drywall in my moms house up in the mountains and its still in good condition up to this time and probably another 20 years. i will be building a house US style with corrugated sheets outside and drywall inside supported by metal studs. well see what happens
