It depends if you can handle the "real-deal Philippines". You are better off going to the city first, because it is better to ease your way slowly into the Philippines. Otherwise, you'll be drinking from a fire-hose. Newbies should stay out of the Provinces till you know your way around because there's is a whole 'nother level of poverty and suffering in those areas that takes getting used to. I don't care how tough you think you are – you can't handle it trust me take my word for it. Also people in the Provinces have their own freaky cultural attitudes and behaviour and it is easy to offend someone if you don't understand the rules – and you don't want to piss-off or insult some of those people.
