Some may believe it’s Davao City, with President Duterte hailing from that city, which is really big (google it, you’ll have more facts than you may care to want to know). Or even Cebu City, which is a major city located in an island that bears the same name: Cebu. Or even some other city located in one of the numerous islands of the Philippine archipelago. But still, the current major city remains to be Manila, which has lent its name to the national capital region, being Metro Manila. This whole region remains the “current major city in the Philippines” for reasons obvious to most: it’s also the political capital. Even President Duterte, like most Philippine presidents, still has to stay in his assigned official residence in Manila, the Malacanan Palace. This will not change unless a law is passed to that effect.

Manila remains the major government center. Quezon City and Makati were economic centers. Cebu is Visayas version of center. Davao is Mindanao center. Baguio was North Luzon's center.
